Christiaan Postma

Having seen the new Bell & Ross Twelve O’Clock concept I was struck at how similar it was to a past project by Christiaan Postma. Postma assembled more than 150 clock mechanisms to display the time, however it is not represented numerically. Instead each hand gradually rotates and interacts with other surrounding hands to reveal the hour as a word.

The word “three” completely appears when it’s exactly 3 o’clock  and will then transform again as time passes. The word “four” begins to appear and at exactly 4 o’clock the word “four” is clearly visible. The word “three” is by then totally vanished and no longer readable.

An ingenious time piece that doubles as a splendid work of art.
