One word – Epic!
I remember a lecture given by Grayson Perry in which he described the time taken in which to be proficient at something, be it drawing, painting or writing. 1000 hours is that magical number. An average 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for 6 months will net you that figure. Joe Fenton spent 3000+ hours on this drawing. Incredible!
It does beg the question though, in that even if he sells all 100 copies of the print for $695 each, his hourly figure for the past ten months would be $22/hour. A labour of love indeed.
